4½ SK4 plane

The 60 mm wide blade allows for quick planing of large surfaces. With its 3 mm thick blade and a weight of 2.6 kg, it absorbs vibrations and ensures a smooth cut even in difficult grains.
More space for fingers on the main handle
The plane body width of 72 mm provides a large contact surface, significantly reducing the chance of accidental tipping during planing.

The development of these planes is based on Herdim planes. They have been making them for decades for luthiers, who place great value on extreme precision and perfect workmanship. The solid, stress-relieving annealed cast steel planes* with finely lapped soles and right-angle ground cheeks are as much a sign of quality as the blades, which are at least 3 mm thick and made of SK4 steel (61 HRC). Easy-to-adjust iron feed allows for simple corrections, while ergonomic, hard-wearing grips and polished fins fit comfortably in the hand. Handles made from local red beech wood.
