When attaching accessories to the lathe spindle, such as flat chucks or chucks, we always ensure that the fixture fits firmly onto the lathe spindle. The nylon rings bridge possible distances between the lathe spindle flange and the mounted spindle accessories, thus guaranteeing a firm connection.

They also make it easier to remove accessories from the spindle once the turning work is finished (without "grabbing" the metal parts).
